CONSTITUTION: This catalyst for production of the monocarboxylic anhydride is formed by chelating the noble metal compds. of the group 8 of the Periodic Table by the chelating agent having the org. nitrogen group, org. phosphorus group, org. arsenic, org. sulfur group or mercapto group and depositing the compd. as the catalyst component on the support. The chelating agent described above more specifically has an alkyl group or aralkyl substituent group and has the structural formula expressed by formula I or formula II [Y denotes NR (R is 1-6C alkyl, 3 or 6C cycloalkyl or the like) or the like; Z denotes H, aryl group or the like and (m) denotes an integer from 2 to 6).
