PURPOSE:To control a loop without applying tension to a wire, by a method wherein after a wire is bonded, a capillary is upwardly moved by a necessary distance and then circularly moved to a position near a subsequent bonding position. CONSTITUTION:A capillary 1 is lowered to press a ball 3 on a contact point A of a pellet 6 to connect the ball 3 to the pellet 6. Thereafter, the capillary 1 is upwardly moved to a position H above the pellet 6 by a necessary distance (z) and is made to perform a circular motion centered at a loop height (y) and having a radius, x=z-y, to effect a wire bonding at a point B. By this constitution, no strain is applied to the root of the wire, so that the root is strong, and a high loop can be formed. In addition, it is made possible to control the loop by varying the height of the center of the circular motion, that is, the height (y) of the loop.
