O13. CONSTITUTION:6 potassium titanate whiskers made from a natural rutile sand is descrived by the following formula: K2(Ti, M)6.O13. Unavoidable impue elements such as Mg, Ni, Cu, Zn, Al, Fe, Cr, Ga, Si, Nb, Zr, V, Mn, P, S, etc. (indicated by M in the formula) originated in impurity of the national rutile sand are taken in molecules of a material to improve its toughness. When a synthetic resin is blended with the whiskers, the impact resistance, tensile coefficient of elongation, and the amount of deflection are increased. Since the whiskers are fine and its dispersibility in a composite material is good, the composite material whose surface is less anisotropic and smooth, can be obtained.
