PURPOSE:To facilitate an operation and to cope with the setting of codes from an output source other than predetermined, by a method wherein, command code groups from predetermined output sources are set to instruction code groups all together, and command code groups outputted from an output source other than predetermined are set by converting one instruction code of the set instruction code group to another instruction code by a conversion means. CONSTITUTION:Eight output sources are predetermined, and respective command code groups from these predetermined output sources (SS1-SS8) include a CR command code and an LF command code. Eight sorts of instruction code groups (e21-e28) are provided corresponding to the respective command code groups. Then, in a setting part 11 the command code group is set to one of the instruction code groups. In a conversion part 13, the CR command code can be converted to either of a 'carriage return' instruction code (q21) and a 'new line' instruction code (q22) and the LF command code can be converted to either of a 'line feed' instruction code (r21) or a 'new line' instruction code (r22).
