Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head characterized by improved contact start/ stop (CSS) performance, wear proof, low frictional electrical charge, and high workability by using zirconia ceramic high in sliding property as a slinder material to fabricate a non-magnetic substrate. CONSTITUTION:The non-magnetic material obtained by using a zirconia phase as a main phase and dispersing one kind or more of carbide fine particles, e.g. TiC, ZrC, HfC, VC, NbC, TaC, and WC powder, of one kind or more of elements selected from the IVa, Va and VIa groups of the table of the periodic law and Al2O3 powder into the zirconia phase consisting of 5-20mol% Y2O3 and the remaining mol% of ZrO2 is used as a slider to obtain a magnetic head on which a magnetic transducer is arranged through an insulatng thin film. For instance, 0.4-26.3wt% TiC and 0.34-2.25wt% Al2O3 are mixed with the zirconia having said composition as zirconia ceramic, the mixture is press-molded and hot-pressed in the vacuum to obtain a sintered body. Thus, the magnetic head superior in sliding property and wear proof and high in density scarcely having pores is obtained.
