NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R is NR R , OR (R , R are lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, cycloalkyl, lower alkoxy, or R and R incorporate to form together with N to form a 5--8-membered ring, which may contain N, S, and O where the ring may be substituted with lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, two alkyl groups may incorporate to form a ring; R is lower alkyl); R is phenyl, phenoxy, pyridyl, which may be substituted with lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; X is O, S] and its acid adducts. EXAMPLE:4-Benzyl-1-(N,N-dimethylcarbamoyl)imidazole. USE:It is used as an improver for brain functions, and may be orally administered. PREPARATION:The reaction between the compound of formula II such as 4- benzylimidazole and the compound of formula III such as N,N- dimethylcarbamoyl chloride gives the compound of formula I.
