The (2R)-Aryloxy-3-n-butyroyloxy-propan-2-ols of the formula I (Ar = isocyclic or heterocyclic mono- or polynuclear aromatic radical) are prepared by reaction of (2R)-glycidyl-n-butyrate (II) with an aromatic hydroxy compound Ar-OH (IV) in the presence of a quaternary ammonium halide (III).
