Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To have steering with high safety by allowing a steering torque sensor to sense the steering torque in compliance with the elastic deformation of a resilient member which couples an input shaft with an output, and engaging and disengaging a clutch by rotation of a motor and the elastic deformation of the mentioned resilient member. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical slider 18 is loosely fitted on an input shaft 11 coupled with an output shaft 12 through a torsion bar 13, and the output 12 side of this slider 18 is detained with a spiral groove 12a on the periphery of the output shaft 12 through balls 18, and a ring 20 is firmly fitted on the slider 18. One end of a level, 28 in the form of leaf spring is fixed to inside a case 26 mounted in a housing 14a, and a ball 27 at the other end is fitted in a ring-shaped groove 20a of the ring 20, and a strain gauge is affixed to the side of this lever 28. Thus a steeling torque sensor is formed. Fit parts for the input and output shafts 11, 12 are formed at corners 11c, 12b, and a pair of rolls 22 are fitted in a hole provided at the corner 11c, which together with an outer sleeve 23 constitute a clutch.
