Zusammenfassung:	NEW MATERIAL:An imide of formula I [A is formula II, formula III (X is direct bond, O, S, SO2, CO, CH2CH2, formula IV; R is methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, methoxy, carboxy, Cl, Br, OH); n is 1-5]. EXAMPLE:A reaction product between 3,3',4,4'-diphenylsulfonetetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether and maleic acid. USE:A thermosetting imide compound for polyimide which is soluble in organic solvents, and excellent in solvent resistance and impact resistance. PREPARATION:At least one of diphenylsulfonetetracarboxylic acid is allowed to react with an aromatic diamine and/or its isocyanate and maleic acid or a dicarboxylic acid which can form maleic acid by heating to give the compound of formula I.
