Zusammenfassung:Ethylene copolymers are prepared using a diphenylethane derivative as C-C-labile polymerisation initiator, where the latter is up to 40 mol of a compound of the formula in which R1-R6 are hydrogen, straight-chain or branched alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkylaryl, substituted alkyl, substituted aryl, -CN, -COOH, ester, acid nitrile, alkoxy, alkylsilyloxy having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, arylsilyloxy or halogen, where each alkyl contains 1 to 10 carbon atoms, based on one million mol of polymerisable monomers, polymerisable monomers being taken to mean ethylene and at least one comonomer, and the polymerisation is carried out at from 60,000 to 350,000 kPa and at from 130 to 350 DEG C.
