EXAMPLE:N-Benzyloxycarbonyl-L-leucyl-L-phenylalaninal. USE:A cysteine proteinase inhibitor showing strongly inhibitory activity against enzymes, especially papain and calpain, useful as an anti-inflammatory drug and remedy for muscular dystrophy and cataract. PREPARATION:A compound shown by formula II (R5 is lower alkyl) is reduced with a reducing agent in an organic solvent to an alcohol compound and further oxidized with an oxidizing agent into an aldehyde to give a compound shown by formula I (in the case where R4 is H). |
