Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To improve starting characteristic and to perform speed control with high response and high accuracy, by supplying only exciting current component of primary current to a motor when the motor is stopped. CONSTITUTION:Respective changeover switches 30, 32 are switched to stopping sides 30B, 32B during the stoppage of an induction motor 10. Consequently, primary current command ¦i'1¦ is composed only of exciting current component ialpha and angular frequency setting omega1 of primary current is brought to zero. As a result, primary current provided from a power converter 38 to the motor 10 is composed only of exciting current component having frequency of 0Hz. The main flux of the motor 10 has no phase rotation and become of specified magnitude with fixed spatial position, and the motor 10 can be started with no lowering of starting torque due to the delay of rising of flux.
