Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To obtain a new protein, having a specific amino acid sequence and thrombopoietin (TPO) activities, capable of promoting growth and differentiation of a megakaryocytic precursor cell and enhancing the production of blood platelets and useful for treating and diagnosis for thrombopathy. CONSTITUTION: This new protein has an amino acid sequence containing an amino acid sequence represented by the formula and thrombopoietin (TPO) activities, is capable of promoting the growth and differentiation of a megakarocytic precursor cell and useful for treatment and diagnosis, etc., of thrombopathy and has activities in specifically stimulating or enhancing the production of blood platelets in the living body. The protein is obtained by successively carrying out the gel filtration, anion exchange chromatography of blood plasma in a rat suffering from thrombocytopenia and further lectin chromatography, providing a TPO active fraction, successively performing the dye adsorption affinity chromatography, hydrophobic interaction chromatography and preparative inverted phase chromatography of the fraction and purifying the TPO active fraction.
