PURPOSE:To provide a method to simply manufacture an inflator for a light weighted air bag. CONSTITUTION:After one end of a center fixing part having a space to receive an ignition means is joined to the center part of a vessel main body by friction welding, members such as an outer filter, an inner cylinder to partition off a combustion chamber, an inner filter, and gas generating agent, are assembled in the vessel main body outside the center fixing part. Manufacture of the inflator for an air bag is featured that a cover having an opening part on the center is inserted with the outer circumference of the other end of the center fixing part to form a joint part, welded at the Joint part and a joint part at the outer end edge part of the vessel, and then an ignition means is assembled in the spae in the center fixing part through the opening part of the cover.
