Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To readily carry out measurement of number of live bacteria and identification of kind of bacteria such as clinical examination in a short time by culturing bacteria in a selective medium, irradiating the culture mixture with excitation light, measuring fluorescent intensity and comparing the intensity wit a calibration curve previously made for a well-known kind of bacteria. CONSTITUTION:A selective medium is partially injected to a microplate 1 by a partially injecting zone 2 of medium, a specimen containing cells to be measured is added to the microplate by a partially injecting zone 3 of cells, the specimen is diluted at plural stages by a device 4 for stepwise dilution and addition of fluorescent probe, a fluorescent probe is added to the plate, the plate is transported to a fluorescent light measuring device 5, fluorescent intensity before culture is measured, the measured fluorescent intensity is memorized in an outer memory of a data treating and controlling device 6, then the plate is cultured in an incubator for given time, after the culture, fluorescent intensity is remeasured, difference in fluorescent intensity before and after the culture is obtained, the difference is compared with the calibration line between the number of live bacteria and the fluorescent intensity corresponding to the number of bacteria previously made for well-known bacteria to carry out the measurement of the number of bacteria in the specimen and the identification of the kind of bacteria simultaneously in a short time.
