PURPOSE:To provide a zinc alkaline battery which has a good liquid- leaktightness by using as a negative electrode active material a zinc alloy mixed with no mercury and restraining hydrogen gases generated from the surface of a current collecting body. CONSTITUTION:A zinc alkaline battery has a negative electrode 2 comprising as a negative electrode active material zonc alloy powders mixed with no mercury, provided in the center of a battery, includes a positive electrode 1 provided in the outer periphery of the negative electrode 2 via a separator 3 and a current collecting body 4 inserted into the negative electrode 2 and comprising copper or an alloy thereof, and uses as a current collecting material a copper alloy having a Vickers hardness of 150 or more. This constitution prevents metal powders such as iron or nickel from adhering to the current collecting body when it is fabricated or the battery is assembled, improves the liquid- leaktightness of the battery, and reduces the dispersion of quality.
