Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst having high efficiency of decomposition of ozone and hardly deteriorating its catalytic performance with the lapse of time by producing manganese dioxide having a large BET specific surface area. CONSTITUTION:Almost spherical fine particle-shaped manganese oxide is formed by blowing oxidizing gas on manganese-contg. stock, and Mn and impurity components in the manganese oxide are dissolved by subjecting the oxide to acid treatment at a temp. below ordinary temp. to obtain almost spherical fine particles based on porous manganese dioxide, contg. impurities as the balance and having surface ruggedness, many pores, 0.1-5mum average particle diameter and >=150m /g BET specific surface area. The objective catalyst for decomposition of ozone is produced using the fine particles.
