PURPOSE:To generate a pitch reset signal in the shortest time when the alternating factor of pitch division occurs by providing a reference position detecting means and a reference timing signal generating means. CONSTITUTION:The reference position detecting means 01 detects a reference position provided on a photosensitive body where plural latent images can be set. The reference timing signal generating means 02 produces a reference timing signal by referring to a pitch timer table 03. And without waiting for the next detection of a reference position, the number of the latent image areas can be altered. Even if a pitch is required to be altered any time, a pitch reset signal (reference timing signal) can be generated in the shortest pitch reset time because all pitch timing is constantly generated.
