PURPOSE:To accurately specify the position of one point on an intersection on a display screen by inputting the specified point by an operator and arithmetically operating the coordinates of all the intersections with reference to a line segment near the specivied point. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with an article data input device 1 for inputting article data and a graphic data input device 2 for inputting graphic data. Based on the designation of layout which is inputted in a layout designation input device 3, a layout operation device 4 executes the layout operation of the article data and the graphic data, then the result is stored in a storage device 7. The layout device 4 searches the graphic data in the storage device 7 and all the intersections formed by the searched line segment are obtained. Among the intersections, the point nearest to the specified point which is inputted in a specified point input device 8 is selected. In the case that the point exists in a shorter distance than a specified length from the specified point, a function for converting the specified point to the intersection is given to a specified point converting device 9. Then, the intersection near to the specified point is obtained with the necessary minimum arithmetic operation quantity and the position of one point on the intersection in a graphic is accurately specified by a display device 6.
