Here, since the backlight 105 of a display unit 101 of a remote controller is required when the person exists in the room and the unit 101 is scarcely observed due to darkness of the room, the backlight 105 is turned ON when a person exists and the room is dark, the unit 101 is made to be easily observed when the person operates the controller, and the backlight 105 is turned OFF when no person exists in the room or the room is bright to reduce power consumption.
