Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To improve the contrast ratio, the resolution, the brightness and the facilitation of a projection image with respect to the various kinds of objects such as a plain-paper original, a transmitted original, a book or a stereoscopic substance in an overhead projector using a space light modulation element. CONSTITUTION:Light reflected on the original 16 is made incident on the space light modulation element 26 provided with a dielectric mirror whose band is restricted and liquid crystal which is homeotropic-oriented by the actions of a mirror 22 and an optical system 24. Then, the image information thereof is written. Besides, read-out light whose band is restricted is made incident on the element 26 by the actions of a light source for read-out 30, a band restricting filter 32, an optical system 34 and a polarizing beam splitter 28 and excellently reflected on the dielectric mirror. Then, the image information is read out.
