Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain the title practicable high-strength colored zirconia-based sintered body consisting of ZrO2 contg. Y2O3 or CeO2, Al2O3, and a specified metal and having specified sp.gr. CONSTITUTION:The sintered body consists of 72-94.9wt.% ZrO2 contg. 1.5-5mol% Y2O3 and/or 5-30mol% CeO2, 5-25wt.% Al2O3, and 1-3wt.% of >=1 kind among Cr, Er, Eu, Ho, Pr, Nd, Co, Ce, Tm and Th, and has sp.gr. corresponding to >=95% of the theoretical sp.gr. calculated from the composition. The sintered body having sp.gr. corresponding to >=95% of the theoretical sp.gr. and wherein the crystal phase of zirconia consists essentially of a tetragonal crystal or a tetragonal crystal and a cubic crystal has a sufficiently excellent strength characteristic. The sintered body has high toughness, deflection strength, and strength, and is lightweight. The decorativeness is also enhanced by coloration. Accordingly, the sintered body exhibits excellent characteristic and commercial value when used for a spike, etc., and is industrially advantageous.
