CONSTITUTION:A system controller 6 has a memory designated by a called station and stores the range of original size, range of resolution, resolution requested by the operator at every communication party and default resolution when a called station is selected. In selecting the called station by a console panel 5, the default resolution to be stored is displayed on the console panel 5. The original is converted into the selected size and resolution and read by an original reader 1 and the picture information compressed by a data compressor 3 is stored in a picture information storage memory 7.
