PURPOSE:To properly process a picture at high speed by independently applying a picture processing to respective color information according to a processing value designated for respective color information according to instructing information from an external equipment. CONSTITUTION:A gamma correction is applied to the respective color information independently by a gamma correcting circuit 53 according to a gamma characteristic designated for respective color information according to the instruction from a host computer 31 to properly execute the gamma correction at high speed. Namely, the gamma correction is independently applied for respective color information according to the gamma characteristic designated in accordance with the instruction from the host computer to the respect respective color information. Thereby, in a color scanner, the gamma correction of different gamma values for respective color information can be attained to execute the fine gamma correction for respective color information.
