Zusammenfassung:NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R , R are H, lower alkyl, or R and R together forms lower alkylene; R is lower alkyl; (n) is 0-2; but R and R are simultaneously not H) or a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:3-Methylthio-1-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-2-[(4-trifluoromethyl)phen yl]butane-2-ol. USE:An antifungal agent having a high antifungal activity, well absorbed and useful for preventing and treating the fungal infection. PREPARATION:A compound of formula II is allowed to react with an epoxidizing agent (e.g. trimethyl sulfoxonium iodide) and triazole in the presence of an alkali (e.g. NaOH) in a solvent such as methanol at the room temperature to 100 deg.C to provide the compound of formula I ((n) is 0). The compound of formula I is oxidized to provide the sulfinyl or sulfonyl compound thereof.
