PURPOSE:To select the normal communication automatically by storing the communication mode of the executed communication and an address number of a communication opposite terminal equipment corresponding to each other, retrieving the storage content at dialing and deciding the communication mode to be dialed. CONSTITUTION:A facsimile equipment is provided with a communication mode automatic selection section 11. A communication mode storage section 112 consists of a table comprising plural columns and a communication mode processing section 111 stores the communication mode and an opposite terminal equipment corresponding to each other to the communication mode storage section 112. In the case of communication, the operater inputs an address number of the opposite terminal equipment from an operation section 1. When no communication mode is designated, a retrieval section 113 inputs the entered address number and seeks the number coincident with the address number from the communication storage section 112. Then the communication mode corresponding to the address number in existence is obtained and outputted to a communication mode selection control section 14 and the call to a subscriber telephone line 9 or a digital line 9 is controlled by a terminal control section 7.
