PURPOSE:To obtain a traveling device that travels accurately along a wall with a prescribed distance secured from the wall by using the traveling means which are driven to the right and the left of a main body independently of each other and the means which are attached to the main body and detect the spaces secured from the wall to be detected. CONSTITUTION:A main body 3 contains caterpillars ML and MR serving as traveling means at the left and right sides and is driven independently by a move-backward motor M1 and a move-forward motor M2 via clutches C1a, etc., and sprocket wheels 4, 5, 41 and 42. At the same time, the main body 3 can be turned immediately when both motors are driven adversely to each other. The 1st-3rd detection means 13-15 are added to the main body 3 for detection of the spaces secured to a wall. The means 13 switches a microswitch S1 to detect the distance from the wall when a detection bar 18 consisting of a contact 21, an attachment bar 20 and a coil 19 touches the wall and bends. In the same way, the means 14 and 15 function to drive the main body 3 with a fixed space secured between the caterpillar MR and the wall.
