Zusammenfassung:To provide a liquid crystal display element capable of inhibiting alignment defect from growing.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display element 1' comprises a liquid crystal 8 provided in a gap formed by bonding a first substrate 2 and a second substrate 5 with seal material 11. An effective pixel region 12 formed of a pixel electrode 3 for causing the liquid crystal 8 to display an image is provided on the first substrate 2. Between the effective pixel region 12 and the seal material 11 is provided an alignment defect inhibition region 17 which inhibits alignment defect from growing in the liquid crystal 8 from a region outside the effective pixel region 12 toward the effective pixel region 12. The alignment defect inhibition region 17 is formed of an electrode for causing the liquid crystal 8 to display a white image.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】配向欠陥の成長を抑制することが可能な液晶表示素子を提供する。【解決手段】第一基板２と第二基板５をシール材１１で貼り合わせることで形成された隙間に液晶８が設けられ、第一基板２には、液晶８に画像を表示させる画素電極３により形成された有効画素領域１２が設けられ、有効画素領域１２とシール材１１との間には、有効画素領域１２よりも外側の領域から有効画素領域１２に向かって発生する液晶８の配向欠陥の成長を抑制する配向欠陥抑制領域１７が設けられ、配向欠陥抑制領域１７は、液晶８に白画像を表示させる電極により形成されている、液晶表示素子１'である。【選択図】図１
