POWER CONTROL DEVICE AND POWER CONTROL METHOD

To provide a power control device and a power control method that determines whether to use solar power or midnight power for boiling up a hot water storage type boiling-up device while additionally considering a demand response (DR).SOLUTION: A power control device includes a hot water storage type boiling-up device and a solar power generation device and controls power of a power system connected to a power grid. The power control device comprises a DR processing unit that determines whether or not to boil up water during a period in which a request for DR is estimated or scheduled. The DR processing unit includes: a predicted surplus power amount calculation unit that calculates a predicted surplus power amount during the period; a predicted boiling-up power amount acquisition unit that calculates a predicted boiling-up power amount to be consumed when boiling-up water during the period; and a predicted power purchase amount assessment unit that assesses magnitude of the predicted purchase power amount, based on the predicted boiling-up power amount and the predicted surplus power amount.
