Zusammenfassung: | To more effectively prevent ghost and flare.SOLUTION: An optical system for a virtual image display device includes: a light guide member that guides image light from an image display element that displays an image; a partial reflection unit that reflects part of the image light guided inside the light guide member and emits the part of the image light to the outside from an emission surface of the light guide member; and a polarization unit that is arranged on an outside surface of the light guide member located on an opposite side of the emission surface. In the polarization unit, relative to vertical incident light incident vertically on the polarization unit, transmittance of first polarized light is higher than the transmittance of second polarized light having a polarization direction orthogonal to that of the first polarized light. In the partial reflection unit, relative to the vertical incident light, reflectance of the first polarized light is lower than the reflectance of the second polarized light.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
