To provide a relay device and a vehicle communication method capable of improving security in an in-vehicle network.SOLUTION: A relay device 100 includes: an authentication processing unit 140 that is mounted on a vehicle equipped with a TCU 200A, an in-vehicle ECU 200B, and an in-vehicle ECU 200C which are a plurality of functional units in an in-vehicle network, and acquires authentication information for the functional units from an external device outside the vehicle, and performs authentication processing for the functional units using the acquired authentication information; and a relay processing unit 120 that relays information between the functional units on the basis of a result of the authentication processing by the authentication processing unit.
