OPTICAL DESIGN METHOD AND DIFFRACTION OPTICAL ELEMENT

To provide an optical design method for facilitating optical design of a configuration including a meta lens.SOLUTION: The optical design method includes a setting step, a first calculation step, a first identification step, a second calculation step, a second identification step, and a design step. The first calculation step calculates first phase data indicating phase relation to the shape of meta atom on the basis of a first preset wavelength. The first identification step calculates a first phase pattern from a first step pattern, and identifies a fine pattern indicating the shape of meta atom corresponding to the first phase pattern by referring to the first phase data. The second calculation step calculates second phase data different from the first phase data on the basis of second wavelength different from the first preset wavelength. The second identification step refers to the second phase data and identifies a second phase pattern corresponding to the fine pattern.
