To provide a liquid discharge device which can extend the life of a web as compared to a configuration of a conventional technique that constantly sends a new web contact surface to a belt surface, and a control method of the liquid discharge device.SOLUTION: A liquid discharge device includes: a conveyor belt that conveys a medium; a discharge part that discharges liquid to the medium conveyed by the conveyor belt; a cleaning mechanism that cleans the conveyor belt; and a control part that controls the cleaning mechanism. The cleaning mechanism includes a web that comes into contact with the conveyor belt and wipes off the liquid on the conveyor belt, and a drive part that changes a wiping surface of the web with which the conveyor belt comes into contact.
