To provide a filter unit capable of improving sealability and a washing machine having the same.SOLUTION: A filter unit has a filter 3 and a filter case 4 having a storage part 40 for storing the filter 3 so as to be insertable or removable. A flange surface 305 extending in a direction intersecting with an inserting direction D1 of the filter 3 is formed on the filter 3. An annular seal member 5 is provided on the flange surface 305. A receiving surface 403 is formed on the storage part 40 of the filter case 4.
