Zusammenfassung:To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of obtaining high output, having excellent thermal stability, and obtaining ease of recording.SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium 30 includes a recording layer 33 containing magnetic powder. The magnetic powder includes magnetic particles including particles containing ε-iron oxide and iron oxide provided on at least a part of a surface of the particle. A ratio R1 (=(σ/D)×100) of a standard deviation σ of a particle size distribution of the magnetic particle to an average particle diameter D of the magnetic particle is R1≤40%.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 【課題】高い出力を得ることができ、熱安定性に優れ、また、記録容易性を得ることができる磁気記録媒体を提供する。【解決手段】磁気記録媒体30は、磁性粉を含む記録層33を備え、磁性粉は、ε-酸化鉄を含む粒子と、粒子の表面の少なくとも一部に設けられた酸化鉄とを備えた磁性粒子を含み、磁性粒子の平均粒子径Dに対する磁性粒子の粒度分布の標準偏差σの割合R1(=(σ/D)×100)が、R1≦40%である。【選択図】図3
