To provide an artificial leather, which has uniform surface quality and good touch feeling and excellent abrasion resistance, and a manufacturing method thereof.SOLUTION: An artificial leather contains fibrous base material including a nonwoven fabric formed of ultra fine fibers having average single fiber diameter of 0.1 μm or more and 10.0 μm or less and water dispersion type elastomer as components thereof. Average fiber length of the ultra fine fiber is 25 mm or more and 90 mm or less. Fiber bundles composed of 5 pieces or more and 200 pieces or less of the ultra fine fibers are formed. In a scanning electron micrograph of a cut surface obtained by cutting vertically to a surface of the artificial leather, when equally dividing an observation area of the scanning electron micrograph into eight sections, variation coefficient of quantity of fiber cross sections existing in each section is 50% or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】 表面品位が均一で、タッチ感が良好であり、さらに、耐摩耗性にも優れた人工皮革およびその製造方法を提供すること。【解決手段】 平均単繊維直径が０．１μｍ以上１０．０μｍ以下の極細繊維からなる不織布を含む繊維質基材と、水分散型高分子弾性体と、を構成要素として含む人工皮革であって、前記の極細繊維の平均繊維長が２５ｍｍ以上９０ｍｍ以下であり、前記の極細繊維が５本以上２００本以下の繊維束を形成しており、人工皮革の表面に対して垂直に切断した断面の走査型電子顕微鏡写真において、該走査型電子顕微鏡写真の観察範囲を８区画に等分した際の各区画内に存在する繊維断面の個数の変動係数が５０％以下である、人工皮革。【選択図】 なし
