To prevent excessive execution of shading correction when a cooling device is connected between a fuser and a reading device.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has a printer 107 that forms an image by using toner and thermally fixes the image to a sheet; a CIS unit 321 that reads the image while conveying the sheet; and a CPU 233 that controls the image formation to increase the interval between the sheets that are continuously conveyed, and executes shading correction of the CIS unit 321 from when the preceding sheet passes through a reading position until when the subsequent sheet passes through the reading position.
