To solve a problem in which: a curved part of a cable may be increased in size, which is formed on a side where the cable extends out from a reading unit moving inside a housing along a document platen.SOLUTION: A scanner 1 comprises: a document platen 4 that has a placement surface 4S on which a document S is placed, and a reading surface 4Y that is a surface on the opposite side of the placement surface 4S; a support part 21 that faces the reading surface 4Y and extends along the reading surface 4Y; a reading unit 6 that reads the document S placed on the placement surface 4S, the reading unit 6 provided between the reading surface 4Y and the support part 21 and movable in movement directions along the reading surface 4Y; and a cable 40 that extends out from the reading unit 6 toward one direction side of the movement directions of the reading unit 6.
