Zusammenfassung: | To suppress a decrease in permeability of a liquid crystal element in which a liquid crystal polymer layer is provided.SOLUTION: Provided is a liquid crystal element including a first and a second substrate; a first vertical orientation film having a first orientation easy axis; a first liquid crystalline polymer layer arranged on the top of the first vertical orientation film; a second vertical orientation film having a second orientation easy axis; a second liquid crystalline polymer layer arranged on the top of the second vertical orientation film; and a substantially vertically orientated liquid crystal layer composed using a liquid crystal material containing a chiral material and arranged between the first liquid crystalline polymer layer and the second liquid crystalline polymer layer. The liquid crystal layer is such that the first orientation direction by the first liquid crystalline polymer layer is different from the direction of the first orientation easy axis of the first vertical orientation film and the second orientation direction by the second liquid crystalline polymer layer is different from the direction of the second orientation easy axis of the second vertical orientation film.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
