To suppress a decrease in permeability of a liquid crystal element in which a liquid crystal polymer layer is provided.SOLUTION: Provided is a liquid crystal element including a first and a second substrate; a first vertical orientation film having a first orientation easy axis; a first liquid crystalline polymer layer arranged on the top of the first vertical orientation film; a second vertical orientation film having a second orientation easy axis; a second liquid crystalline polymer layer arranged on the top of the second vertical orientation film; and a substantially vertically orientated liquid crystal layer composed using a liquid crystal material containing a chiral material and arranged between the first liquid crystalline polymer layer and the second liquid crystalline polymer layer.
