To hardly provide discomfort to a wearer in an absorbent article including a surface sheet primarily containing water-retentive fibers.SOLUTION: An absorbent article comprises a surface sheet, an absorbent core and a plurality of compression parts. The surface sheet primarily contains water-retentive fibers and has a high extension direction and a low extension direction. The absorbent core includes a base part extending in the longitudinal direction and the width direction, and a projection part projecting from the base part in the thickness direction and having a higher basis weight than that of the base part and is covered with the surface sheet from the thickness direction. Since the projection part along with the surface sheet is compressed in the thickness direction, the plurality of compression parts is spaced apart from each other.
