To prevent an X-ray detecting unit including an X-ray detector from contacting the shoulders of a subject while improving the resolution of a panoramic image.SOLUTION: A panoramic X-ray imaging apparatus 20 includes: an X-ray generating unit; an X-ray detecting unit 44; a support 40 (for example, a turning arm) that supports the X-ray generating unit and the X-ray detecting unit 44; a drive mechanism 60 that turns at least the X-ray generating unit and the X-ray detecting unit 44 by driving the support 40; a displacement mechanism 82 ( for example, a vertical drive unit) that adds movement including a displacement component in a direction different from the turning to the X-ray detecting unit 44; a subject holding unit 32 that holds an imaging subject M; and a turning control unit (for example, an imaging control unit 100) that controls the turning by the drive mechanism and the displacement mechanism.
