To determine a positional deviation of a carriage provided with reading means in a short time.SOLUTION: An image reading device 1 comprises: reading means 1210 which reads an image of a document; a carriage 121 which moves together with the reading means 1210; a detector 1212 which is provided in the carriage 121 and has a prescribed width in the movement direction of the carriage 121; a detection sensor 129 which is turned into the detection state when the detector 1212 is at the opposite position, and is turned into the non-detection state when the detector 1212 is not at the opposite position; and a control unit 300 which can execute a positional deviation determination operation for determining a positional deviation of the carriage 121 in the movement direction.
