Zusammenfassung:To provide a high-speed steel capable of obtaining without going through a complicated process and having excellent toughness.SOLUTION: A high-speed steel includes in mass%, C of 0.50-0.80%, Si of 0.01-1.0%, Mn of 0.01-1.0%, Cr of 1.0-16.0%, Mo of 2.0-8.0%, W of 0.10-1.0%, V of 0.10-2.0%, Nb of 0.10-1.0%, and the balance of Fe with inevitable impurities. The high-speed steel satisfies following mathematical expressions (I) and (II): 4.3≤Cr/C≤20 ... (I); and 5.0≤(Mo+0.5W+V+0.5Nb)/C≤9.0 ... (II).
