To provide a map data update method capable of reducing map data storage capacity.SOLUTION: In a map data update method which is executed with a map information system 1 mounted on a vehicle, map data includes plural pieces of block data partitioned for respective blocks on a map and is stored in a storage device 52 of the map information system.
