To provide a method of producing copolymer latex for paper coating, having excellent balance of ink set property of a latex film, viscosity of the copolymer latex and dry pick strength of coated paper.SOLUTION: The method of producing copolymer latex for paper coating, carries out emulsion polymerization of an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer, an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic monomer, a vinyl cyanide monomer, and optionally, other copolymerizable monomers, with the emulsion polymerization including at least three stages of polymerization process, the amount of the vinyl cyanide monomer used being 20 to 35 mass% (relative to 100 mass% of the total monomers), and the mass ratio of the vinyl cyanide monomer used in the third stage and thereafter being 20 to 45% relative to the total of the vinyl cyanide monomer.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】ラテックスフィルムのインクセット性、共重合体ラテックスの粘度、塗工紙のドライピック強度のバランスに優れた紙塗工用共重合体ラテックスの製造方法を提供する。【解決手段】脂肪族共役ジエン系単量体、エチレン系不飽和カルボン酸単量体、シアン化ビニル系単量体、及び必要に応じて共重合可能な他の単量体を乳化重合する紙塗工用共重合体ラテックスの製造方法であり、乳化重合は少なくとも３段の重合工程を有し、シアン化ビニル系単量体の使用量が２０～３５質量％（単量体合計１００質量％）、全シアン化ビニル系単量体に対する３段目以降に使用するシアン化ビニル系単量体の質量割合が２０～４５％である、紙塗工用共重合体ラテックスの製造方法。【選択図】なし
