Zusammenfassung:To provide an image forming apparatus that can reduce unnecessary toner consumption due to an edge effect no matter what causes variations in the magnitude of the influence of the edge effect, and can prevent a deterioration in image quality.SOLUTION: Prior to execution of image forming processing, an image forming apparatus forms line images and solid images with various line widths (S401), detects the amount of toner adhered to the images (S402), for each of the line widths of the line images, calculates an inverse number of the amount of toner adhered to the line image to the amount of toner adhered to the solid image as a gradation correction factor and creates a correspondence table between the line widths and the gradation correction factors (S404, S405). The image forming apparatus uses the correspondence table to create a correspondence table between character sizes and the gradation correction factors (S406). When print image data includes a line image and a character image (S409: YES), the image forming apparatus corrects the gradation values of pixels constituting the line image and character image by using the gradation correction factors corresponding to the line width and character size of the line image (S410), and subsequently forms an image (S413).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】どのような原因でエッジ効果による影響の大きさが変動しても、エッジ効果に起因する不必要なトナー消費を低減するとともに、画像品質の劣化を防止することができる画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】画像形成処理の実行に先立って、さまざまな線幅の線画像やベタ画像を形成して(S401)、それぞれのトナー付着量を検出し(S402)、線画像の線幅ごとに、ベタ画像のトナー付着量に対する線画像のトナー付着量の逆数を階調補正係数として算出し、線幅と階調補正係数との対応表を作成する(S404、S405)。また、この対応表を利用して、文字サイズと階調補正係数との対応表も作成する(S406)。印刷画像データに線画像や文字画像があれば(S409:YES)、当該線画像の線幅や文字サイズに対応する階調補正係数を用いて、当該線画像や文字画像を構成する画素の階調値を補正した後(S410)、画像を形成する(S413)。【選択図】図4
