To provide an image reading device and an image forming device capable of accurately positioning a document transporting device with respect to a scanner housing with an inexpensive configuration.SOLUTION: A scanner housing 17 includes positioning engagement portions 17d and 17e on a portion of the upper surface thereof located outside a contact glass 18. A document transfer device 200 includes an engaged portion that engages with the positioning engagement portions 17d and 17e in the closed position. The document transfer device 200 is positioned in a plane along the upper surface of the contact glass 18 by engaging the engaged portion with the positioning engagement portions 17d and 17e.
