To provide a power tool which can accurately detect a foreign matter during work.SOLUTION: A power tool includes: an output section 26 which is brought into contact with a work object to machine the work object; a motor 20 which drives the output section 26; and a sensor 34 which measures electrostatic capacitance of a metal section including the output section 26. The power tool detects a foreign matter on the basis of a change of the electrostatic capacitance measured by the sensor 34. That is, foreign matter such as metal is detected by detecting a difference in electrostatic capacitance between when the output section 26 is not brought close to or into contact with an object having large electrostatic capacitance such as metal and when the output section is brought close to or into contact with the object having large electrostatic capacitance.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】作業中に精度良く異物を検出することができる電動工具を提供する。【解決手段】作業対象を加工するために作業対象に接触する出力部２６と、前記出力部２６を駆動するモータ２０と、前記出力部２６を含む金属部の静電容量を測定するセンサ３４と、を備え、前記センサ３４が測定した静電容量の変化に基づき異物を検知するようにした。すなわち、出力部２６が金属などの静電容量の大きい物体に接近または接触していないときと、静電容量の大きい物体に接近または接触しているときとの静電容量の違いを検出することで、金属などの異物を検知するようにした。【選択図】図４
