Zusammenfassung:To provide a rectangular seed crystal capable of being held by a cylindrical receiving part of a seed crystal holding tool arranged at a top of a lifting axis, the rectangular seed crystal being hardly broken, and having a large cross-sectional area.SOLUTION: A seed crystal 1 is arranged at a top of a lifting shaft 15, and becomes a seed for growing a single crystal by being brought into contact with a single crystal material molten in a heat-resistant vessel, and being gradually lifted while the lifting shaft 15 is rotated. The seed crystal consists of a crystal having the same orientation plane as that of a crystal orientation plane of the single crystal, and includes a rectangular seed crystal body 2 consisting of a rod-like body with a generally rectangular-shaped cross section and curved parts 3 formed into a cross-sectional arc shape to be brought into contact with a cylindrical receiving part 11 of a seed crystal holding tool 10 provided at the top of the lifting shaft 15, which are corner parts at least corresponding to an area of the cylindrical receiving part 11, of the rectangular seed crystal body 2.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】引上げ軸の先端部に設けられた種結晶保持具の円筒状受部に対し保持可能で、壊れにくく横断面積の大きい角型種結晶を提供する。【解決手段】引上げ軸15の先端に取り付けられ、耐熱容器内に溶融する単結晶材料に接触させ、引上げ軸15を回転させながら徐々に引き上げることで単結晶を育成する元になる種結晶1であって、単結晶の結晶方位面と同じ方位面を持つ結晶からなり、横断面略矩形状の棒状体からなる角型種結晶本体2と、角型種結晶本体2のうち、少なくとも引上げ軸15の先端に設けられた種結晶保持具10の円筒状受部11の領域に対応する各隅部を、円筒状受部11に接触する横断面円弧状に形成した曲面部3と、を備える。【選択図】図1
