To provide a surgical instrument equipped with an elongated shaft assembly capable of executing a joint motion for executing minimally invasive surgical procedures, and a method thereof.SOLUTION: A surgical instrument 20010 includes an elongated shaft assembly 20200 that defines a shaft axis SA. A surgical end effector 20300 is pivotally coupled to the elongated shaft assembly 20200 so as to move pivotally about a joint motion axis extending laterally with respect to the shaft axis SA. First and second joint drivers 20820 and 20860 are supported to selectively move longitudinally with respect to the elongated shaft assembly 20200. A central joint movement member 20850 is pivotally moved by the movement of the first and second joint drivers 20820 and 20860.
